Heavy Metal Maniac

Consigliato.

Seems like this label has a very good eye on thrash metal music, and is picking excellent bands, as every release has high quality. This time, is the turn of Italians Torment , and before you enumerate the million of underground bands sharing the same name, I must say that this Italian version is a band with a very particular sound. They rooted almost all the sound and guitar riffs in 80's old extreme bands, and this is not a surprise because according to the Bio, they used to play cover versions of Slayer, Possessed , etc at the beginnings. Anyhow they developed an own sound and the music stands solid, basic and totally fueled by metallic blood, If you know what I mean. The rhythm guitar did an excellent work and denotes quite experienced musicians, like in track “ The Cage ”, which has very interesting guitar arrangements throughout all the sections. No doubt this band has hours of musical direction, and the result is effective and professional. Maybe, they have to fix some points her and there, but is not anything to worry about. Also, they don't mistake and they did a clean production, just enough to show the organic side of instruments. This production has not room for unusual synthetic sounds. All in all, Torment did an excellent work on this album and I hope to get more news from them soon. Respect for thrash metal bands looking for personality and those who get away from trends! – Victor Varas

Torment... Good Thrash ´till Death from Milan (Italy)!!!!!!

Dark Scene

Keineswegs. Allerdings bleibt kein einziger Song so richtig im Gedächtnis. Schade, da wäre viel, viel mehr drin gewesen. Für den Weg nach Hause.
Metal Temple
TORMENT is a relatively new Thrash Metal effort off Italy. They recently released "The Damage is Done", an all-in-all old school Thrash tribute that had more than a few good songs up its sleeves. Sometimes I listen to a band and go, “Damn, they're so experienced and so good with their instruments!” Very soon, I get bored. And then other times I listen to a relatively underground newbie and one of the first things I think is, “Hmm. There's a little lack of refinement and experience here,” but I grow to like them because of all the spunk and natural vibes there are.

TORMENT is like combination of both above bands. They have raw talent, coupled with tasteful mastery, yet they never fall into the pit where typical, generic, yet technique-talented bands go to die with their 6/10 records and accumulated wealth lying around them. Their relatively underground status and freshness has spawned a creativity that is very novel in its own sense. It's like listening to a genius friend improvise on his guitar when you're both chilling out. The entire album feels greatly close to home, very garage, intensely real, and therein lays their selling point.

The vocalist has a very interesting tone that caught my attention and engaged me since track one. It's like Black mixed Death mixed Thrash mixed something else Metal. It's new, and it might not be for everyone, but with their new take on vocals, TORMENT can only go upwards as a band that doesn't let record company demands quash their uniqueness.
The solos had this great Rock N' Roll and classic Rock tone to it. I was thinking Brian May or Ritchie Blackmore , but then I remembered that TORMENT doesn't give a shit about sounding like other people so I quickly dropped it in reverence. It was interesting for me to discover that in their early years, the band covered SLAYER , POSSESSED , and DESTRUCTION – Thrash bands with a Death Metal leaning. And the influence can certainly be heard, most apparent being DESTRUCTION with the buzzing riffs and chuggish way of playing them.

The band takes their time with each song's intros, showing a clear appreciation for mangling brains and straining necks with their steady paced, rocking intros. There are far too few bands that have that good old METALLICA steady-paced, riff-heavy style that so drew me into Thrash when I was younger. Most bands these days just seem to want to smash away at the drums and go Tom Morello on the guitars, without any real catchy rhythm or song direction. It loses its niche, but this… this is something that is forever. It was novel when it came out, and it remains novel to this day. It still catches people by their toes and still moves hordes.

Overall, the band is a little new in the metal world. But that's what's so great about them: they're fresh. They're special. I have a thing for special. Hah. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, this album is rocking. It is… how do I say this? You know what; I should just follow the example of TORMENT, newly-minted as one of my “to-watch” bands, in their philosophy that simplicity is key. Therefore here is my simple conclusion: this is a nice album. Listen to it if you like nice albums. My service to Metal is fulfilled.
Metal Wave

Torment.

Metal Disciple
Surprise, surprise, Torment is an Italian thrash metal band and “The Damage is Done” is their second album. I say surprise, surprise because just yesterday I was talking about how much great Italian metal I receive, and here we are today with yet another Italian band that I enjoy. Nice!

I'd like to start by recommending these guys change their name to something a little more memorable. Looking on Encyclopaedia Metallum there are 26 metal bands named Torment. Talk about getting lost in the crowd.

Anyway, back to the music. “The Damage is Done” features eight songs of fairly standard thrash metal. There isn't anything new and exciting about the sound of this album, but they do a good job within the boundary of the style they have chosen. It may sound a little derivative of more well-known 80s thrash bands, but this is a style where as long as it is done well I find myself enjoying the music.

These guys have the chops, and I like what they are doing, but next time let's get a new name and try injecting a little more personality into the songs. Then you will be golden. Here is the track “Chaos Lords.”
Eternal Terror

The second album from Italian band Torment is fairly predictable in its old thrash execution. Understandable given the quartet's early development as a thrash cover act tackling Slayer, Destruction, and Possessed material- so should it really be a surprise that the 8 tracks on "The Damage Is Done" resemble those fast and furious influences? With vocals in the early Possessed/ Death mold and musically tackling a heavy Slayer sheen, most of "The Cage" and "Dissolution" appear highly predictable to these ears- and not in a good way.

Dive bomb lead breaks with expected whammy bar antics, screams emphasizing all the chorus parts, and a rhythm section that struggles to keep things tight in the slower segments- Torment would have been cool 25 years ago... not even close today though.
